Sarasota Memorial Hospital Named Among Newsweek’s “Best-in-State” Hospitals

Wednesday, October 25, 2023

SARASOTA (Oct. 25, 2023) – Sarasota Memorial was named among the nation’s leading hospitals in Newsweek’s first-ever “Best-in-State” hospital rankings released today.

SMH-Sarasota was the only hospital in southwest Florida recognized, ranking #4 out of 21 Florida hospitals that made the list. In total, Newsweek recognized 600 leading hospitals out of more than 5,000 evaluated across the nation.

Newsweek compiled its first America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2024 list in collaboration with global market research and consumer data company Statista Inc. to identify top hospitals in each state. Hospitals were selected based on medical performance indicators that included low mortality, complication and readmission rates, as well as recommendations from medical professionals and patient survey results.

“Navigating a health crisis for yourself or a loved one can be overwhelming. It helps ease the stress if you know where to turn for trustworthy information,” wrote Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief for Newsweek, in today’s report.

Cooper said the list was developed to help people find the best care locally—since access to health care can depend on a patient's distance from facilities.Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder

Sarasota Memorial’s ranking comes on top of a growing list of national accolades, including multiple “Best Hospital” rankings and ratings from U.S. News & World Report, continuous 5-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Magnet designation for 20 consecutive years, and repeated recognition on Newsweek’s list of the “World’s Best Hospitals” to name a few.

“I could not be more proud of our team,” said Sarasota Memorial CEO David Verinder. “Our physicians and staff work hard every day to deliver the very best care – these awards are a testament to their continuous focus on quality and safety, and dedication and commitment to our patients and community.”
