SMH to Host Special Vaccination Event for People 65 & Older this Weekend

With the COVID-19 vaccine in very short supply locally, Sarasota Memorial Hospital is partnering with the Florida Department of Health (DOH) in Sarasota to administer thousands of COVID-19 vaccinations to community members age 65 and older at a special immunization event taking place this weekend at SMH. The vaccination event at SMH is by appointment only.

SMH Welcomes the First Baby of 2021

Sarasota Memorial celebrated the start of a new year, welcoming the first baby of 2021 at 1:39 a.m. on Jan. 1. Born to new parents Jordan Sawmiller and Quay Mays from Bradenton, Fla., New Year Baby Messiah Mays entered the world at 7 pounds, 12 ounces.

SMH Begins COVID-19 Vaccinations for Staff

After receiving 9,600 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this morning, Sarasota Memorial Hospital began vaccinating its healthcare workers by mid-day, and by 4 pm, more than 400 team members had received the vaccine, designed to prevent COVID-19 infection.

New GYN Cancer Specialist Joins FPG Team

Sarasota Memorial recently welcomed a new gynecologic oncologist to its First Physicians Group’s network of medical specialists. Beverly Long, MD, is now treating patients at the FPG Gynecologic Oncology Practice (1888 Hillview St., Sarasota).

SMH 1st in Region to Earn TAVR Certification from ACC

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has recognized Sarasota Memorial and its Structural Heart Team for expertise in TAVR (transcatheter valve replacement procedures ). According to the ACC, Sarasota Memorial is the first hospital in Southwest Florida to be awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification.
