Except in emergency situations, using an out-of- network facility can result in a patient being responsible for a larger portion of a hospital bill.
Emergency Care
You have the right to seek emergency services and care anywhere they are provided, regardless of insurance.
In a medical emergency, patients may seek emergency care at any of our 4 ER locations — SMH-Sarasota, SMH-Venice or our freestanding ER's at North Port and Lakewood Ranch — regardless of insurance coverage or network status. In emergency situations, you should always go to the nearest ER – no authorization is needed, and a patient’s financial responsibility is no higher if they go to an out-of-network hospital.
