Health & Law: A Newtown Community Effort

The Sarasota County Bar Association Diversity Committee in partnership
with Legal Aid of Manasota, Inc. and Sarasota Memorial Health Care System
invite the public to a FREE community event.

Learn how local medical providers and lawyers are working together
to reduce barriers and increase access to essential medical care in the Newtown community.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS INCLUDE
Vickie Oldham, Chair of Newtown Alive!
recounting the history of health care in the Newtown community
Karen Hamad, MD, and Vida Farhangi, MD, SMH Internal Medicine Practice – Newtown
sharing an overview of the practice, its physicians and partners
Linda Harradine, Executive Director of Legal Aid Manasota,and Ilyas Saeg, Esq.,
SCBA Diversity Committee, presenting the Medical-Legal Partnership and the volunteer lawyers
Welcome remarks by the Hon. Charles E. Williams, Chief Judge of the 12th Judicial Circuit
and Judicial Advisor to the Sarasota County Bar Association Diversity Committee, and
Shelli Freeland Eddie, Mayor of the City of Sarasota, and Resident Physician Chris Jenkins, MD
A Q&A will follow the presentation. Attendees will have the opportunity to consult 1-on-1
with the volunteer lawyers after the event, as well as meet the physicians and community partners
working together to enhance the health of Newtown residents.
