Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Ranked Among “America’s Best Nursing Homes” for 2025

SARASOTA, Fla. (Sept. 25, 2024) – Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center was recognized among “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2025” in national ratings released by Newsweek today. SMH’s nursing home was one of three recognized in Sarasota this year.

Nancy Cooper, Newsweek’s editor in chief, said the news organization partnered with respected global data research firm Statista to recognize 1,050 nursing homes of nearly 15,000 facilities across the 25 states with the highest number of facilities according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data. The top nursing homes in each state were assessed and ranked based on four pillars: performance data, recommendations of medical professionals, accreditations and resident satisfaction.

“Families across the nation entrust nursing homes with the health and dignity of their loved ones,” Cooper said in a Newsweek report. “Finding the right facility is not just about numbers; it's about ensuring your family member receives the care and attention they deserve.”

The Newsweek evaluation is based on the following quality and performance indicators:

• Performance Score: The U.S. Centers for CMS provides monthly updated performance data for each nursing home that participates in Medicare or Medicaid. This data was used to score each nursing home based on health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.

• Reputation Score: Survey participants were asked to name up to 10 of the best nursing homes in their respective state and up to five of the best nursing homes in the US. They were asked to recommend nursing homes by considering the quality of care offered, staff training level, and the number of on-duty personnel.

• Accreditation Score: Data on nursing homes provided by The Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

• Resident Satisfaction Score: Evaluations from residents and relatives were included for each nursing home. Based on the available data, nursing homes received a resident satisfaction rating between 0 and 5 stars.

In addition to being nationally ranked by Newsweek, Sarasota Memorial’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has repeatedly been listed among the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report and other independent quality rating organizations. Health systems and nursing facilities cannot opt out of these annual studies or pay for inclusion on the lists.
