Sarasota Memorial Hospital received another “A” for patient safety in Leapfrog Group’s latest hospital safety report card. SMH was one of three in Sarasota and Manatee counties that received A’s for their “commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the United States,” according to Leapfrog’s announcement.

Sarasota Memorial recently welcomed pediatrician Dr. Jose Tavarez to its First Physicians Group. He succeeds longtime pediatrician Dr. Robert Shamsey, who retired from the practice last month after more than 42 years of caring for children in the area.
