A state-of-the-art research facility, the Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute unites the medical research and clinical education programs under one roof, facilitating collaboration, innovation, and career development for the brilliant minds of tomorrow. This includes:
- Research: The epicenter of Sarasota Memorial’s clinical trials and studies supports safe practices for researchers and patients, tailoring intervention options to the needs of the community and managing research studies that provide local access to the latest breakthroughs, positioning Sarasota Memorial as a leader in innovation investment and scientific advancement.
- Graduate Medical Education Program: The GME program includes a Internal Medicine Residency, Emergency Medicine Residency, Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship, Emergency Medical Services Fellowship and the Complex Gastrointestinal Surgery Fellowship at the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute. These programs are preparing the leading physicians of tomorrow through hands-on experience in the community today.
- Simulation and Innovation: A state-of-the-art simulation system recreates real-world medical scenarios in a controlled setting, enabling clinical staff to receive risk-free hands-on training and researchers to practice new procedures and processes. Simulated environments include an expansive Operating Room for multiple group trainings, a Labor & Delivery Room, an Intensive Care Unit, an Emergency Care Center, a Trauma Center and more.
- Computer Lab: From robotic surgery to electronic record management, modern medicine is a computer-driven industry, and an up-to-date computer lab provides training ground for advanced technologies and therapeutic techniques.
- Classrooms: Housing classrooms alongside the training environments like the Simulation Center increase collaboration, compound learning and educational efficiency for physicians, residents, and nurses.
- Medical Library: A comprehensive research and reference database facilitates innovation and attracts scholars from outside the region.
- Meeting Spaces: Larger scale meeting spaces allow SMH to host in-persona and virtual medical and academic conferences, encouraging collaboration and enhancing reputation, in addition to providing room for hospital committees to convene and a modern environment for public Hospital Board Meetings.
