Healthy Weight

A healthy weight is the weight your body naturally settles into when you consistently eat a nutritious diet, are physically active, and balance the calories you eat with the physical activity you do.

But weight is only one measure of your health. People who are thin, but don't exercise or eat nutritious foods aren't necessarily healthy just because they are thin. A person who is overweight according to body mass index (BMI) charts may be healthy if he or she eats a variety of healthy foods and exercises regularly.

How much you eat is not the only determinant of your weight. Your age, metabolism, genetics, and physical activity level also play an important role in your weight, health, and risk for disease. So it's important that you avoid comparing yourself to others and that you determine the lifestyle changes you need to make to maintain a healthy weight.

My energy level has skyrocketed – I now walk between 3 and 3½ miles daily. I’ve completed so many projects around the house that I couldn’t do when I was heavy, my wife doesn’t have a “honey-do” list left for me!"

What was the date of your surgery? January  6, 2006

What do you weigh now? 165

How has weight loss surgery changed your life?

Prior to surgery, I was diagnosed with hypertension, Type II Diabetes and sleep apnea. I took five medications for these.  Since surgery I have been able to stop taking all medications and no longer suffer from any of the afflictions.

My energy level has skyrocketed – I now walk between 3 and 3 ½ miles daily. I’ve completed so many projects around the house that I couldn’t do when I was heavy, my wife doesn’t have a “honey-do” list left for me.>

Friends, colleagues and business associates are amazed how good I look and feel. I enjoy all their positive comments. They have allowed me to take pride in my appearance – I enjoy buying clothes that fit me well and show off my new, trim figure.

Because my self-esteem has improved so much, I am much more social – enjoying people and social functions more.

I always remember that the surgery is just a tool  and I must always be cognizant of what I’m eating – I don’t ever want to get fat again!
