these important health tests
in addition to annual physicals!
Recommended Age
Test
21 and older, annually; more often if 140/90 consistently
Blood Pressure Test:
To detect high blood pressure
or hypertension.
35 and older, every five years
Cholesterol:
Recommended levels: Total cholesterol <200,
HDL (the good cholesterol) >35,and LDL (the bad cholesterol) <130
mg/dl.
Annually starting at age 50
Fecal occult blood test:
A test of a stool sample
for blood, which could be a sign of cancer of the colon or rectum.
By age 50 and repeated every 10 years
Colonoscopy:
Scope into rectum and colon to look for
colon cancer.
18 and older, as directed by a doctor
Electro-cardiogram:
Electrical recording of the heart
to detect abnormal rhythms.
50 and older; discuss annual screenings, or more frequent
if family history of prostate cancer
Prostate Specific Antigen:
PSA; schedule digital rectal
exam at the same time.
15 and older, self exam monthly; professional exam
when you have a complete physical exam or feel a lump.
Testicular Exam:
Self exam to check for painless lumps.
