At Sarasota Memorial’s Food and Nutrition Department, our mission is to foster a collaborative effort between health care professionals in order to optimize our patients’ level of care while serving attractive, nutritious meals to patients, staff and visitors.
Clinical Inpatient Services
A physician, nurse or staff member can consult a dietitian at any time during the patient’s hospitalization if a nutritional need is identified.
A registered dietitian can provide:
- Nutrition
Assessments
- Nutrition Education for modified diets
- Diet order and
Tube Feeding/IV Nutrition recommendations
- Specialized
Nutrition Classes including Congestive Heart Failure Clinic, Cardiac Rehab and
Pulmonary Rehab
Nutrition intervention has been proven to:

- Identify and correct malnutrition

Patient Meal Service
Food and Nutrition Services strives for exceptional service by providing attractive, nutritious meals served by courteous staff. At Sarasota Memorial, patient meal service is a vital element to promote optimal nutrition and to encourage a timely recuperation.
Our service features:
Explanation of our menu ordering process to newly admitted patients, including the documentation of food preferences and special food needs. Each menu includes an explanation of the physician prescribed diet.
Daily chef specials are featured on our patient menu and alternate menu selections also are available. A Gourmet menu is available for an additional charge.
Our patient menus are approved by a registered dietitian to ensure nutritional adequacy and appropriate diet modifications. Each modified entrée is balanced to optimize flavor while adhering to nutritional restrictions.
Outpatient Nutritional Services
Comprehensive nutrition counseling is available for a wide variety of medical needs. Outpatient services seeks to educate about proper dietary habits in order to control, correct or prevent illnesses. Our mission is to provide nutrition education that will promote the well-being of both the individual and family members.
