Urgetnt Care Center at University ParkwayIf you travel University Parkway near Honore Avenue, chances are you’ve noticed the latest addition to Sarasota Memorial’s network of neighborhood health centers.

Today the health system will open a new urgent care center at its existing outpatient medical campus. Now, in addition to laboratory and imaging/radiology services, physician offices and rehabilitation, the University Parkway campus will offer board certified emergency medicine and family physicians to handle the community’s urgent (non-emergency) medical needs.

Sarasota Memorial moved and expanded the urgent care center from its previously leased location near Tuttle Avenue to the larger campus it owns at Honore. It’s one of three urgent care centers the health system owns and operates in the Sarasota-Manatee region. Staffed by Sarasota Memorial’s board-certified emergency medicine and family physicians, the urgent care centers provide immediate care for:

  • Sprains, strains & fractures
  • Eye injuries
  • Lacerations & burns
  • Sore throats, sinus infections and earaches
  • Colds & flu
  • Bronchitis
  • Skin rashes
  • Urinary problems
  • Physicals

“The demand simply keeps growing for urgent care centers that can provide after-hours non-emergency care in our community,” said Reuben Holland, MD, medical director of Sarasota Memorial’s two ERs and three urgent care centers.  “Our urgent care centers ensure patients who need it have rapid access to the medical expertise and resources of Sarasota Memorial.”

All of the services most patients need are available under one roof – patients can get X-rays, treatment for broken bones, immunizations, physicals, flu shots and most of their radiology and lab tests right on the spot – no extra trips to a diagnostic lab or imaging center.

And because the centers are tied into the hospitals electronic medical record system, there is a seamless exchange of vital health information should a patient need to be referred for further testing or admission to the hospital.

Open 7 days a week – 8am-8 pm
Unlike many other walk-in or urgent care centers, patients always see a doctor at Sarasota Memorial’s urgent care centers – all three are staffed 8 am-8 pm, seven days a week by Sarasota Memorial’s board certified emergency medicine and family physicians and equipped with imaging and lab testing to provide quick, comprehensive treatment. The center accepts most insurance plans and no appointments are necessary. Visit smh.com/urgentcare for more information
