Welcome to Geriatric Services
It is normal for memory to change as we age. However, certain older adults experience changes in memory that are more significant. Those changes can affect their ability to care for themselves safely. The Geriatrics Department at SMHCS provides comprehensive evaluation services to those dealing with changes in memory and cognition that affect their daily lives. A comprehensive memory evaluation helps identify the specific cognitive (thinking) skills that have been affected, evaluates for the potential causes of those changes and provide patients, families and primary care physicians with a comprehensive report that includes recommendations for treatment and care. The SMH Memory Disorder Clinic staff can assist families in accessing community services, provide caregiver education and information that will help families plan for long term care needs.
